I Watched a Conan Movie and Logic Was Optional
July 26, 2026
I watched a Detective Conan movie recently.
As usual, it was dramatic, emotional, and completely normal if your definition of normal includes explosions, impossible timing, and a child detective somehow being more competent than every adult in the room.
I do not watch Conan movies expecting strict realism anymore. That would be my fault. At this point, the franchise has already told us what it is. It is mystery, action, nostalgia, and physics taking a coffee break.
Still, I enjoyed it.
The thing about Conan movies is that even when the plot becomes a bit too convenient, they are usually fun. There is always that feeling of something big happening. The music comes in, Conan looks serious, someone explains a plan that required god-tier prediction, and I just sit there like, okay, sure, let him cook.
The mystery part may or may not be perfect. Sometimes the culprit is interesting. Sometimes the motivation feels like it was generated after three cups of coffee and a deadline. But the atmosphere is usually good enough to carry it.
What I like most is probably the comfort of it. Conan movies feel familiar. You know the structure. You know the emotional beats. You know someone will do something extremely dangerous and somehow survive because this is still a movie with franchise obligations.
Was it realistic? No.
Was it subtle? Also no.
Did I enjoy it? Unfortunately, yes.
Sometimes entertainment does not need to be perfect. Sometimes it just needs to be fun, a bit ridiculous, and sincere enough that I stop being annoying about plot logic for two hours.
Conan still works for me because of that.
